Dr Chiran Babu A, is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon born and brought up in Karnataka. He completed his medical schooling from JJM Medical College, Davangere, and his Masters in General Surgery from Mysore Medical College. He then underwent cardiac surgical training from the prestigious Institute JIPMER, Pondicherry, between the years 2001 to 2004. He cleared the Diplomat of National Board exam, DNB (Cardiothoracic Surgery) in 2004 and was awarded the gold medal in DNB, for the year 2004-05.
Soon after he completed his education, he joined Narayana Hrudayalaya in 2004, where he worked for nearly a decade. During his stay here he gained valuable experience in the entire gamut of cardiac surgery – beating heart CABG, Valve repairs and replacements, surgery of the Aorta and Aortic root, left Ventricular aneurysm surgery, Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy, surgery for congenital heart diseases like ASD, VSD, coarctation of the aorta, PDA, Tetralogy of Fallot.
He also has experience in dealing with homografts and autografts.
He was a key member of the team that performed the first successful Heart Transplantation in Karnataka. He also set up the programme of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery along with other notable people in Narayana Hrudayalaya in the year 2008, which is also his key area of interest.
He has done a travelling research fellowship in Minneapolis Heart Institute, Minneapolis, USA, in 2008. He had been to The Heart Institute, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for a specialised training program in Mitral Valve Repairs in 2009.
In 2014 he moved to Sparsh group of Hospitals with a team and eventually set up successful Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgical services in three of their branches at Bangalore, and routinely performing nearly the entire range of Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgeries.
He joined Kauvery Hospital group as Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery in October 2021.
His areas of special interest include Valve repairs, Maze procedure, Ventricular restoration surgeries, surgery for heart failure and minimally invasive cardiac surgery.
He has a range of publications in international journals like Journal of Heart Valve Disease, Journal of Cardiovascular Anaesthesia and Journal of Cardiac surgery.
He is a Life Member of Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons
