Dr. R. Benedict Raj has dedicated his career to Cardiac surgery and serves as a Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon at Sparsh Super Speciality Hospital in Bangalore and Ramesh Hospital in Vijayawada. A meritorious MBBS Alumni of Madurai Medical College (1991), he qualified as M.S. (General Surgery) from the Madras Medical College, MGR medical university in the year 1998 and M.Ch. (CTS) from the same university in 2004. He further did his first Fellowship in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery at Narayana Hrudayalaya under the RGUHS Bangalore, in 2006 and then underwent 1-year advanced training in high risk paediatric cardiac surgery from CHW, Sydney, Australia.

He has a whopping 19 years of quality work experience and has worked as Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon from 2008 at Narayana Hrudayala in Bangalore; Associate professor cardiac surgery Amrita institute of medical sciences since 2010; Chief paediatric Cardiac Surgeon at MIMS Hospital in Calicut since 2013; and Ramesh hospitals vijaywada since 2015. His expertise is in building efficient teams for Paediatric cardiac surgery, to provide good outcomes with minimum morbidity. He speaks 4 south Indian languages quite fluently, with an additional growing grasp of spoken Telugu also. Performing over 400 surgeries per year out off which 75% are paediatric Cardiac cases. The results, which are audited by IQIC in different types of hospitals internationally provide unbiased analysis and outcome directed improvement to his team. He is a volunteer for Children’s heart link for whom he delivers lectures to similar teams.

He has written several publications and is a senior speaker in conferences. He is a life member of the Indian Medical Association and Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.
“Thymic artery: uncommon origin from proximal aortic arch or distal ascending aorta.” is his latest original publication which got published in ITALIAN JOURNAL OF ANATOMY AND EMBRYOLOGY in 2015. He has written and published a Handbook which outlines his effort to standardize the activity of OPERATING TECHNIQUES IN CARDIC SURGERY.
